How to Create Product Filters

10/02/2023

Creating product filters in CS-Cart allows your customers to narrow down their search results based on specific criteria, making it easier for them to find the products they're looking for. Here's how you can create product filters:

  1. Log In to Your Admin Panel:

Open your web browser and go to the admin panel of your CS-Cart store. Log in using your administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to Products:

In the admin panel, look for the "Products" tab in the main menu. Click on it to access the products section.

  3. Go to Filters:

Within the "Products" section, you'll find a tab labeled "Filters". Click on it to access the filter management page.

  4. Add New Filter:
    • To create a new filter, click the "Add Filter" button. This will open a form where you can enter details about the filter.
  5. Configure Filter Details:
    • Filter Name: Enter a name for the filter (e.g., "Brand", "Color", "Size").
    • Filter Code: This is an internal identifier for the filter. It should be unique and usually in lowercase (e.g., "brand", "color", "size").
    • Type of Filter: Choose the type of filter you want to create (e.g., Dropdown, Checkbox, Radio buttons, etc.).
    • Status: Set whether the filter is active or inactive.
  6. Add Filter Variants:
    • Under the "Filter Variants" section, you can add the specific options that customers can choose from. For example, if you're creating a "Size" filter, you would add options like "Small", "Medium", "Large", etc.
  7. Save Changes:

Once you have configured the filter and added variants, click the "Save" button to save your changes.

  8. Assign Filters to Categories or Products:
    • After saving the filter, you'll need to assign it to specific categories or individual products. You can do this in the category or product editing page under the "Filters" tab.
  9. Check Filters on Storefront:

Go to your storefront and navigate to a category or product that has the filter applied. You should see the filter options displayed, allowing customers to refine their search.

Additional Tips:

  • Consider Filter Hierarchy: You can create parent and child filters to organize them hierarchically. For example, a parent filter "Color" might have child filters like "Red", "Blue", and "Green".
  • Test Filters: After creating filters, it's important to test them on the storefront to ensure they work as expected and provide a good user experience.
  • Update Filters as Needed: Regularly review and update filters based on changes in your product catalog or customer preferences.

Remember to save your settings after making any changes. This will ensure that the filters are associated with the products correctly and displayed as intended on your storefront.
