10/02/2023

Managing product categories in CS-Cart allows you to organize your products effectively, making it easier for customers to navigate and find what they're looking for. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

1. Log in to Your Admin Panel:

  • Open your web browser and go to the CS-Cart admin panel by entering the URL followed by "/admin.php" (e.g., http://yourdomain.com/admin.php). Log in with your administrator credentials.

2. Navigate to Categories:

  • In the admin panel, locate the "Products" section in the left-hand menu and click on "Categories".

3. Add a New Category:

  • To add a new category, click on the "+ Add category" button.
  • Fill in the necessary details for the category:
    • Category Name: Enter the name of the category.
    • Parent Category: Choose the parent category if this is a subcategory. Leave it blank if this is a top-level category.
    • Status: Set whether the category is enabled or disabled.
    • Description: Add a description for the category (optional).
    • SEO Name: Customize the URL of the category for SEO purposes (optional).
    • Meta Title, Meta Keywords, Meta Description: Enter SEO-related information for the category (optional).

4. Edit or Delete Categories:

  • To edit an existing category, locate it in the list and click on the "Edit" icon (pencil icon).
  • To delete a category, click on the "Trash Can" icon next to the category you want to remove. Note that deleting a category will also delete all products within that category.

5. Organize Categories:

  • You can change the order of categories by dragging and dropping them within the list. This affects how categories are displayed in the storefront navigation.

6. Add Products to Categories:

  • After creating categories, you'll want to associate products with them. You can do this when adding or editing products. In the product details, there will be a section to select the category or categories that the product belongs to.

7. Configure Category Settings:

  • When editing a category, you can adjust various settings like the category name, description, status, SEO information, and more.

8. Set Up Category Thumbnails:

  • You can upload images to represent categories. This helps in visually identifying categories in the storefront.

9. Save Your Changes:

  • After making any adjustments, be sure to click on the "Save" or "Save Changes" button to apply the settings.

Remember to review your storefront after making any changes to ensure that the categories are displayed correctly and products are organized as intended. Additionally, refer to CS-Cart's official documentation or community forums for any version-specific instructions or additional options available in your specific version.
